Will People Stay At Home to avoid Covid19?

Late last week, President Muhammadu Buhari announced the easing of the lockdown which was put in place majorly in Lagos State, Ogun State and Federal Capital Territory, Abuja  This was done to curtail and bring to a halt the spreading of corona virus popularly called COVID-19.

This lockdown were also in place in almost every state of the country except few. This lockdown is to ensure the flatten of the curve of the virus .

In the run up to the easing of the lockdown, there were hues and cries from the citizens, most especially the vulnerable ones who makes their living on daily basis, that the longer the lockdown, the longer they face with economic crisis as many are now begging for help to eat in a day.

In the same vein, the Federal government also put in place some sort of palliatives to ease the lockdown in which money, foods and other items were distributed to the people. But the question remains, does those palliatives reached the vulnerables who actually needed it?

After the President's announcement of easing of the lockdown, the people are out in their thousands thereby jettison the social distancing practice protocol which is being use to mitigate the spread of the virus.

On visiting banks, markets, malls, motor parks it is obvious that we should be ready for another wave of COVID-19 spreading.

However, if we have to make people stay at home, has government done the needful? The answer is No! It is another thing to make people stay at home, it is also another thing to provide for their needs while staying at home. Even the palliatives could not reach thirty percent of the population talk less of any other means.

Although, government alone can not do the job, had the wealthy people in the society comes into the fray and not pockets of them, it will be easier to keep people at home but in a situation where people can only fend for themselves through their daily means, they can not stay at home. Let us not forget that these people have families to cater for  and many of them would rather have Covid19 than watching his family die in hunger .

Personally, I did not support people coming out now but how will I cater for their needs if I asked them to continue staying at home
